Monitoring Techniques

Thermal imaging

Thermal Optics

Thermal optics offer several advantages, primarily the ability to see in complete darkness and through light obscurants like fog, smoke, and dense foliage. They excel at detecting heat signatures, allowing for observation of objects and wildlife in conditions where traditional optics fail. This makes them valuable for hunting, search and rescue, security, and various other applications.

Back to Base Surveillance

Back to base pest surveillance offers several key advantages, including early detection of feral pests, improved management of established pests, and enhanced market access. It also contributes to a more coordinated and efficient national approach to biosecurity by facilitating information sharing and targeted responses. Early detection significantly increases the chances of successfully eradicating or containing a new pest outbreak, minimizing its spread and impact.

Drone Surveillance

Thermal drones offer several key advantages, including enhanced vision, improved safety and efficiency, real-time data collection, and flexibility in various conditions. They are particularly useful in situations where visibility is limited, such as at night or in smoky environments. They can detect heat signatures from high in the sky allowing for the identification of animals even in challenging conditions without being disturbed.

Traps

Cage traps offer several advantages, including the ability to safely and humanely capture animals without causing harm, the potential for species-specific targeting, and the suitability for urban and rural settings. They also allow for easy identification of trapped animals and can be used to collect data on target species. Cage traps are designed to capture animals without causing injury or significant stress. The animals are safely contained within the cage until they can be released or handled appropriately.

Jaw traps, specifically foothold traps with features like offset and laminated jaws, offer advantages in animal welfare and trapping efficiency. Offset jaws reduce pressure on the animal's foot, potentially minimizing injury and promoting better circulation. Laminated jaws, with thicker metal, increase the holding strength and surface area, reducing the chance of foot damage. These features, combined with proper setting and daily checks, can lead to more humane and effective trapping.

GSM cage traps, which utilize cellular network technology to communicate trap status, offer several advantages in animal management and research. They allow for remote monitoring, reducing the need for frequent manual checks and enabling timely responses to trapped animals. This leads to improved animal welfare by minimizing the time animals spend in traps and potentially reducing stress. The traps also enhance efficiency by notifying operators when a trap is triggered, allowing for prompt action.
